1) Aesthetic Filling

The process of cosmetically correcting and filling the cavities or pits caused by decay or other reasons in a healthy way is called aesthetic filling.

Although composite fillings were initially preferred only in the front teeth, with the advancing technology, chew-resistant and extremely strong composite fillings have been produced and are now suitable for use in all teeth. Composite resin used as aesthetic filling material is a plastic mixture and contains silicon dioxide.

Composite filling, popularly known as white filling, is filled into the tooth when it has the consistency of dough and hardened with LED or halogen light. Since it is chemically bonded to the tooth tissue, it is extremely resistant to abrasion and pressure. Composite fillings are preferred not only for filling purposes, but also to correct aesthetic defects in teeth. How is Aesthetic Filling Treatment Applied?

First, the decayed tooth is cleaned. After the decays and residues are cleaned, aesthetic filling treatment is performed. However, before this procedure, local anesthesia is applied so that the patient does not feel any pain or pain. Thanks to local anesthesia, the area to be intervened is numbed.

Therefore, regardless of which filling material is used, we can say that this procedure is a very comfortable process for patients. After the necessary cleaning, a cavity is left in the tooth. This cavity in a decayed, broken or damaged tooth needs to be filled in accordance with the actual structure and form of the tooth. Depending on the preferred material, special medical devices can be used to harden the filling quickly. After the aesthetic filling is applied, the patient is asked to close their mouth and not move. In this way, the patient is in control of whether there is a protrusion or excess in the filling that will disturb the patient. If there is a complaint, the dentist can correct the excess part by methods such as thinning, cutting or lowering. At this stage, the filling process is completed and the tooth returns to its former function.

What are the Advantages of Aesthetic Filling?

Today, it is important that dental treatments are both functional and visually satisfying. For this reason, aesthetic fillings are also intended to match the natural tooth in color and shape and to have indistinct filling borders. Some advantages of aesthetic fillings are as follows:

– Compared to normal fillings, aesthetic fillings provide a natural appearance by hiding the transition line in the tooth.

– Protects the tooth without the need for abrasion.

– Can be applied in one session.

– It does not require an impression.

What is the Lifespan of Aesthetic Filling?

Composite fillings, which are frequently used especially in the last 50 years, may wear out a little earlier than amalgam fillings. However, they can be used for 10-15 years with good care. Conditions such as teeth grinding can shorten the life of the filling.

Is There Pain and Soreness After Dental Filling Treatment?

Patients who want to have dental filling treatment are usually concerned about pain and pain. Questions such as whether there is pain after filling treatment are frequently asked. This is especially important for patients who suffer from pain due to tooth decay for a long time. A slight pain may be felt after the filling, but usually this pain lasts for 1-2 days. A doctor should be consulted for longer lasting pain.

Along with pain, there may also be slight tenderness in the area. However, this is a normal reaction. The important thing is that the pain is caused by the application, not the filling material.

2) Smile Design (Hollywood Smile)

Smile design includes all treatments that aim to increase the aesthetics of a smile by correcting all kinds of defects in the tooth and mouth structure. It is one of the frequently performed applications in the field of aesthetic dentistry. The smile design process starts with the examination of the patient. The dentist receives information about the patient’s dental health and oral structure and creates an appropriate treatment plan to achieve the desired appearance. Smile design can be done in various ways:

  1. Porcelain Laminate: Thin porcelain layers are used to cover deformities, fractures, discolorations and tooth gaps. This method can be used to shape, lengthen and discolor the teeth.
  2. Zirconium Dental Veneers: White zirconium alloy is used to provide an aesthetic appearance in bridges used in the posterior region. It is more aesthetic and has higher durability than metal-backed veneers.
  3. Porcelain Dental Veneers: It is the coating of tooth-shaped materials on the teeth. It aims to protect the teeth and increase their aesthetic appearance.
  4. Laminated Dental Veneers: Porcelain layers are used to eliminate aesthetic problems in the front teeth. It is preferred for correcting discoloration, tooth gaps and crooked teeth. Laminated veneers can be used in cases such as discoloration, stains, hereditary structure and discolorations. However, it is not suitable for people with bad habits such as pen biting, nail biting or people with advanced gum damage.

The application process usually involves preparing the tooth, taking impressions, preparing and placing the porcelain layers. Good oral care is essential for the longevity of laminated veneers and excessive force should be avoided.

The advantages of laminated veneers include a natural appearance, durability, color retention, resistance to wear and tear, and a short period of time. This method provides the desired aesthetic features without disturbing the natural structure of the teeth.
